The Managers are a 19-piece big band based in Bolton, Lancashire in the UK and have been playing big band and jazz music in and around the Northwest of England since late 2006. The band plays the music of Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, Duke Ellington, Maynard Ferguson, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, Bette Midler and Betty Hutton to name a few. Please visit the next gig page for our next event, browse through the videos, photos and recordings, or and then contact us when you’re ready to book the band for your event.
Originally formed as a much smaller jazz outfit early in the summer of 2006, the group eventually evolved into the sizable ensemble it is today as more local musicians became invovled. The band was ‘homeless’ for around 6 months, practising in any rehearsal studio they could fit in, which got more difficult as the band grew in number. The band found a permanent place to rehearse in the Dog and Partridge, Bolton Town Centre, and shortly after played their first gig there a week before Christmas (check the live footage on the ‘Watch Us Play‘ page).
The band went from strength to strength, playing gigs at several local music venues including The Albion, The Roundhouse and The Brass Cat in Bolton, The Met (Bury), Darwen Music Festival, and The Rampant Lion and Irish Heritage Centre in Manchester. The band continued to grow in number still, swelling to 22 instrumentalists and 4 vocalists late in 2007, before eventually settling down to their current lineup of 5 trumpets, 4 bones, 5 saxes, and a 5-piece rhythm section.
Outgrowing their home of 5 years, the band moved from the Dog and Partridge and now rehearse at Bolton Ukrainian Club, Castle Street Bolton.
The Managers Big Band have just released their first self-titled album containing 12 tracks of big band and swing music. They are £10 and are available to buy at any of their shows, the Dog and Partridge or Bolton Ukrainian Club.
We are now getting busier and busier as our reputation grows and but would love to perform at your special event..
